The Mitsubishi Rayon Group drew up its first medium-term management plan for implementation starting in fiscal 1993, with the principal goal of improving its cost structure and reorganizing its business lines through rigorous business portfolio management. Amid a challenging economic environment, we have concentrated on strengthening our business base under our sixth medium-term management plan, launched in fiscal 2008. Under this plan, we have steadily implemented measures to achieve sales revenues of \1 trillion, accelerated growth of our core acrylic business, and the nurturing of next-generation core businesses. However, the global recession has had a major impact on our operations. In response, we revised our medium-term targets downward in August 2009 and set out a vision for the Mitsubishi Rayon Group in 2018, entitled New Design MRC.

New Design MRC
Under New Design MRC we have positioned rigorous portfolio management as our basic strategy, through which we aim to create business complexes capable of achieving the top market share in the global market. The major issues under this plan are as follows.
| 1. |
Accelerate growth of MMA Business Complex |
| 2. |
Nurture next-generation core businesses (the carbon fiber and composite materials business, and the water treatment business)
|
| 3. |
R&D for emerging new businesses |
| 4. |
Pursue an ongoing program to strengthen operational efficiency |
| 5. |
Restructuring unprofitable businesses |
| 6. |
Optimize in the global production |
